HYMN TO LIFE
~~for Mom, on the occasion of Earth Day, April 22, 2012~~
~four and a half billion years, and still going strong~
The earth lends herself to me for a time
So I can learn to be a true human being.
Willing to collaborate with me.
Responding to my choices.
So strong, so firm, is she in her self.
She can compost almost anything,
Using it all as material to fuel her vitality.
I am so lucky to be here for a while.
To witness this incredible play—beyond imagination.
Fortunate to ride the winds of grace
And cross the vast depths of unknowing.
The funny thing is
It’s up to just me
To decide how little or how much
I want to be involved
In this dance.
Some are content
I need to know this life
in its fullness.
